Why we built this
How many times have you opened a food app, scrolled through hundreds of restaurants sorted by “most reviewed”, and still ended up at the same place you always go? Or worse — booked somewhere that looked great on paper but was completely wrong for a family birthday, a first date, or a work lunch?
TastingTrek was built in Perth to solve that problem. We started with a simple question: what's the best restaurant for this group, this occasion, tonight?
What TastingTrek does
You describe what you're looking for in plain English — “family dinner in Fremantle with a playground, budget about $40 per head” — and TastingTrek finds and ranks restaurants specifically for your needs.
Every result is scored using our Trek Score™ — a weighted algorithm that considers occasion match, budget fit, availability, star rating, and proximity. Not just “most popular”, but genuinely right for you.
Trek Score™ explained
The Trek Score™ is a 0–100 score calculated in real time for every restaurant based on your search context:
Scores are recalculated live. A restaurant that's perfect for a romantic dinner may score differently for a kids' birthday — that's the point.
Perth, first
We're starting with Perth because we know it well and because Perth's dining scene deserves better discovery tools. From Fremantle's waterfront to Northbridge's laneways, Subiaco's neighbourhood gems to Cottesloe's beachside cafes — TastingTrek covers the suburbs Perth actually eats in.
Once we've nailed Perth, we'll expand to other Australian cities.
